The heavily armored Fane Knights are the cult's ancient, traditional fighting formations. They originated in the centuries following the founding of Eversael, when the priesthood viewed the second Dawnguard with great suspicion, considering them faithless upstarts.
Their loyalty to Fane was never in doubt. Many fought to the death defending Eversael, while the survivors followed their masters into the catacombs beneath the city's ruins.
Over the centuries, the ranks of the Fane Knights were thinned, but periodically replenished by newly created Eldritch. Although newcomers rarely wished to join the ancient priesthood, the military rank of the Fane offered them a path to recognition and advancement.
