Scandinavian Big Box

The Scandinavian Big Box includes Copenhagen and Helsinki in their Deluxe Editions, along with two expansions each!

Copenhagen

The Danish city of Copenhagen is traversed by canals and harbors, with "Nyhavn" (New Harbor) being famous for its colorful gabled houses along the water.

In Copenhagen, players design new façades for these houses to seamlessly fit into the beautiful harbor setting. On a turn, players have two actions to choose from:

  • Take Cards: Players may take two adjacent cards from the display. However, they must ensure they do not exceed the 7-card hand limit.
  • Buy Facade Tiles: By using cards, players can purchase facade tiles in various colors and shapes. While any tile may be purchased, tiles placed touching others of the same color provide a discount.

Building tiles over specific spaces or completing rows unlocks new abilities for easier development. Completing a row or column awards points, which are doubled if the row or column is entirely composed of windows. The game is a race to earn 12 points.

Helsinki

The famous Senate Square in the Finnish capital is a landmark surrounded by government buildings, the university, the cathedral, and the Sederholm House. In Helsinki, players design pavilions to protect pedestrians from the rain.

The gameplay in Helsinki shares similarities with Copenhagen, but with added complexity. The central board depicts Senate Square, featuring:

  • 8 spaces (two per side).
  • 8 cards, each linked to two spaces.

On their turn, players move their pawn 1-3 spaces and then choose one of two actions:

  • Take Cards: Players may add the two face-up cards linked to their current space into their hand, provided their hand remains within the 7-card limit.
  • Build a Pavilion: Players play a card to determine the shape of the pavilion piece and then play additional cards of the same color to match the size of the piece. The pavilion piece is then slid onto their game board from the side corresponding to the pawn’s position on the main board.

Covering certain spaces rewards a coat of arms, which players can use to trigger one of 15 unique one-time special actions.

Features

The Scandinavian Big Box combines the charm and strategy of Copenhagen and Helsinki for a unique and engaging gameplay experience filled with creative design and challenges!
