Void Zombies are the result of the reproductive process of the akatas, who implant their parasitic larval offspring into humanoid hosts. The microscopic larvae cause Void Death, an infection that functions as a disease. Those that perish from it turn into rotting corpses, often with a bloated blue-gray "tongue", which is actually the fanged tail of the parasitic larva inside. The larvae undergoes a second gestation before turning into adult akatas—by vomiting out the akata larva and beginning the process anew.
