Crazy Apes and Other Card Games
CRAZY APES
Plays like: Crazy 8s
Objective: Be the first player to get rid of all your cards.
How to Play:
- Remove the Old Goat and Jack cards from the deck and shuffle the rest.
- Deal 5 cards to each player (or 7 cards if there are only two players).
- Place the remaining cards face down in the middle as the draw pile.
- Turn the top card of the draw pile face up to start the discard pile.
- The first player plays a card that matches the top discard by color or number, or plays an 8 (Ape) to change the color.
- If a player cannot play, they must draw from the pile until they can, or until the pile is empty.
End of Game:
The first player to play all their cards wins the round.
GO SAFARI
Plays like: Go Fish
Objective: Collect the most sets of four cards of the same rank.
How to Play:
- Remove the Old Goat and Jack cards from the deck and shuffle the rest.
- Deal 5 cards to each player (or 7 cards if there are only two players).
- Place the remaining cards face down in the middle as the draw pile.
- On your turn, ask another player for a specific number you already have at least one of (e.g., “Do you have any 12s?”).
- If the player has any cards of that number, they must give them to you, and you take another turn.
- If they don’t, they say “Go Safari!” and you draw one card from the pile.
- Whenever you collect all four cards of the same number, lay them down as a completed set.
End of Game:
The game ends when all sets have been made. The player with the most sets wins.
OLD GOAT
Plays like: Old Maid
Objective: Don’t be the last one holding the Old Goat card.
How to Play:
- Remove the Jack cards from the deck and shuffle the rest.
- Deal all cards to the players. Some players may have more cards than others — that’s fine.
- Take any matching pairs in your hand and place them face up in front of you.
- The first player offers their cards to the player on their left. That player picks one card without looking and adds it to their hand.
- If the drawn card makes a pair, set the pair aside.
End of Game:
The last player holding the Old Goat card loses. Everyone else wins.
SNAP JACK
Plays like: Slap Jack
Objective: Be the first to win all the cards.
How to Play:
- Remove the Old Goat card from the deck and shuffle the rest.
- Deal all cards face down to the players. Some players may have more cards than others — that’s okay.
- Each player takes turns flipping the top card of their pile face up into the center, forming a shared pile.
- When a Jack (Alligator) is turned up, all players try to slap the pile as quickly as possible.
- The first player to slap the pile wins all the cards in the center and adds them to the bottom of their own pile.
- If a player slaps the pile when there isn’t a Jack, they must give one card to the player who flipped the last card.
End of Game:
The last player with remaining cards wins.
