Rune Stones
Rune Stones is a deck-building and hand-management game by acclaimed designer Rüdiger Dorn. In this strategic game, every card has a unique number, and players must skillfully decide which cards to buy and how to play them. The higher-numbered card in every action is permanently removed from the deck, so players need to carefully balance strategy and resources.
Gameplay Overview
Players use their cards to gather gems, forge them into Artifacts, and then combine these into Rune Stones, which grant unique abilities for the rest of the game. The more artifacts used when creating a Rune Stone, the more points earned. This creates a constant decision-making tension: Is it better to gain abilities early or accumulate points for larger endgame rewards?
On your turn, you may choose from one of three actions:
- Summon Creatures:
Take new creature cards from the display by playing the required amount of spell power from cards in your hand.
- Play Cards:
Play two cards from your hand to gain resources, new cards, or points. However, be cautious: Every card has a unique number. The higher-numbered card is permanently removed from the game, while the other is placed in your discard pile.
- Forge Artifacts:
Spend gems at the 6 different Dwarf forges to create artifacts. Once you have at least two artifacts of different colors, you can combine them into a Rune Stone. These Rune Stones grant powerful abilities and significant points.
Endgame and Victory
The game ends when a player reaches or exceeds 65 points, triggering the final round. Once all players have had an equal number of turns, the person with the most points is declared the winner!
