Winter Kingdom
Winter Kingdom features seven double-sided hexagonal map tiles that are randomly arranged into the playing area, offering a unique layout for every game. After setup, the following components are dealt to establish the game's features:
- Three scoring conditions
- One economy card (showing how players earn money)
- One twist card (adding unique features to the game)
Each player is dealt five ability cards and one terrain card to begin the game.
Gameplay
- Place Houses:
On your turn, you must place three houses in the terrain depicted on your terrain card. If possible, you must place the houses next to previously placed houses. If not possible, houses may be placed anywhere matching the terrain on the card.
Players also have a limited number of forts that can replace any house and count as two pieces.
- Make a Purchase:
After placing houses, you may use your gold to:
- Put an ability card into play (by paying its cost).
- Upgrade a previously purchased ability card (by paying the additional cost).
Purchased abilities may be used once per turn for the rest of the game.
Players start the game with some gold and can earn more based on the economy card in play for that game.
The game ends once one player runs out of both houses and forts. Players score points based on:
- The criteria set by the scoring cards for that game.
- Having the most houses next to each castle, earning an additional 3 points per castle.
The player with the most points is declared the winner!
